Lets walk together!

Amos/Amoc 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

This often-quoted scripture is generally misused to convey the idea that two people must “be in agreement” or “on the same page” in order to journey together. There is a better understanding that can be gleaned from looking at one of the words in this text.

Be Agreed/Agree – yaad – YOD, AYIN & DALET

Definition: to meet, appointed, assemble, assembled, assigned, designated, designates, gather, gathered, made an appointment, meet, meet together, set

Let us replace the transliterated word “AGREE” with the Hebraic meaning. What is this verse saying now?
~ “Can two walk together, except they be GATHERED?”
~ “Can two walk together, except they be ASSEMBLED?”
~ “Can two walk together, except they MEET TOGETHER?”

So, this verse is not about agreement. Its more about assembling, gathering, and investing time in relationships. Togetherness does not happen with forcing agreements upon one another.

Hebrews 10:23-25 “23 Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. 25 Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
