If you have a lot of space, then create sections that you can manage (I have 2 sections, 50' x 20' that I can rotate crops or simply let either section rest depending on the season).
Location is important too. Vegetables need adequate sunlight and water. If your area receives a lot of rain, observe the places where the water pools. Building a garden in these areas may not be ideal.
A lot more can be said but plan ahead and don't take on more than you csn handle.
