We causing the bleeding ourselves because we keep giving away what is set apart/ valuable to those that are abusing us. That rend is the same word used for what demons do to the person they were in. *Rend: break to pieces, to tear apart violently.
What is holy/ valuable that allows these people to harm us? Mercy, Forgiveness, and Trust. The Torah has a format for giving this out.
