Gossip can destroy trust, sow division, and hurt the spirit of a community. The Bible warns us not to be “busybodies” or “talebearers” (Proverbs 20:19, 1 Timothy 5:13).
If a church community is full of gossipers, those who spread private matters, stir up drama, or speak on things they don’t truly know, is this in line with Scripture?

Gossip: casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true.
Spreading lies and unconfirmed details as if it is the truth is a no for sure. But just because something is unconfirmed or we may have suspicions or a genuine curiosity about someone or thing, we can still talk about it. I think that’s where wisdom comes in and we need to know when and where to bring something up, who to bring it up with, then if we do think carefully before we speak: “is this coming from mal intent?”, “am I basing my opinion on righteousness?”, “am I giving the subject mercy?”

Proverbs 11:13 says a faithful person keeps a matter private, not discussed in circles.
So even if it isn’t meant with malice, if it doesn’t build, protect, or correct in love, it’s better left unsaid.
I personally don’t want to hear it, and have no problem telling anyone that, but then I’m the problem 🤦🏽♀️
