Todays Scripture and Insight: MATTITHYAHU 8:1-4

Donna wanted her father’s help, but she was afraid to ask. She knew that when he was working on his computer, he didn’t want to be interrupted. He might get upset at me, she thought, so she didn’t ask him.

We need not have such fears when we come to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄. In Mattithyahu 8:1-4, we read about a leper who didn’t hesitate to come before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 with his needs. His disease had made him desperate—he was cast out from society and in deep emotional distress. 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 was surrounded by “great multitudes,” yet the leper made his way through the crowd to speak with Him.

Mattithyahu’s Besorah says that the leper came and “bowed before Him” (v.2). He approached 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 in reverence, with trust in His power, and with humility—acknowledging that the choice to heal belonged to Him. He said, “Aḏonai, if You desire, You are able to make me clean” (v.2). In compassion, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 reached out and touched him (though leprosy had made him “untouchable” by the standards of the Torah), and he was immediately cleansed.
Like the leper, we do not need to hesitate when approaching 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 with our requests for help. As we come to Him in humility and in worship, we can trust that He will do what is best for us.

Reflect and Pray

What an example this leper is to me, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄. I ask You to give me a heart of worship, a heart of belief in Your power, and a heart of trust that when I bring my needs before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, You will do what is best. May I lay down my own desire and fully surrender to Yours.

Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of favour, in order to receive compassion, and find favour for timely help.
